Current Georgia Healthcare Initiatives
Georgia Healthy Families is a new program for members of Medicaid, WellCare, and PeachCare for Kids. Through this program, Georgia will allow these eligible patients to choose a health care plan to fit the needs of their families. Patients include children, pregnant women, and women with breast or cervical cancer who meet the enrollment guidelines of Medicaid, WellCare, and PeachCare. The new focus of the plan is to improve member’s health through health education with an emphasis on wellness, which the community health and private healthcare providers are especially capable of providing.
Voices for Georgia’s Children, along with the Georgia Department of Human Resources, recently hosted a conference to focus on the health of children between ages 5 and 9. Key Georgia players are focusing on ensuring health insurance coverage for this crucial period of growth.
The Georgia Immunization Registry (GRITS) began in 1996 to track immunizations in the state. Collaborating with several pediatric groups, the registry is in place to ensure that all children in the state are properly immunized and that there are no duplicate immunizations. The plan also helps public health providers to remind their patients when immunizations are due.
